Copyright in Pet Games

lurapets

This image above alerted me to an issue that a lot of pet games are facing, which is copyright. Lurapets added these to their site, which is an exact likeness to the very recently released movie.  I think that pet game owners in particular need to find someone on their team who knows about copyright law, and figure out what to do about things like this.

that is pretty lame. im not gonna lie.

Hmm... yet you do the same thing? The difference is Lurapet's doesnt take vacation with the money people spend on the site, it actually goes back into the site

    Huh?

I'm paid a salary for my work on Subeta (and the other sites) which I use for my vacations. Which I don't really take very often, and aren't that expensive.

We spend tens of thousands of dollars a month on payroll (paying the staff members) and on servers a month kiddo ;)

sorry, keith, but just i don't see how this is any different from subeta's turkish delights trunk or skull candle trunk. exact replicas (which some items from our trunks are) or blatant ripoffs (which most items from our trunks are) the principle is the same. not to side with lurapets here, but you're in no position to judge anyone for doing this...

There is a big difference between what we do, and what this is.

When we make a trunk that is BASED on something from pop culture (ie: the skull trunk) we make our own story (if you read the desc on the trunk it's there) and modify or change a lot of clothing / major pieces of the character.

Not to mention, they'd have been perfectly in the clear if they'd made them based on the original story (from the book) because that has open rights and anyone can build or write or draw or sell things related to it. Instead they chose to release ones based on the BRAND NEW movie and copied it down to a T.

i'll give you that on the strange skull candle. i suppose there is enough variation between the movie characters' clothing and the clothing inside the trunk. but there is nothing "based on" about the narnia trunk. just because it doesn't outright say THIS TRUNK IS BASED ON THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA...come on. every single thing about it looks EXACTLY like the movie. exactly. from the snow queen dreads to the ice crown to the head plate to the lost school boy...everything as well. down to a T. it wasn't a brand new movie, no, but there was no original story or thought behind it whatsoever. i even read the descriptions to that one, although there wasn't much of a description to any item inside it. does it just not count because the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe was originally a book even though the physical imaginings/designs of the characters come directly from the film? i'm not trying to be accusatory i'm trying to understand how exactly this is different?
  • the thing is, though, turkish delight is a FOOD item, despite the trunk itself looking similar to the narnia version of the item. it's still not outright copy-pasting like this incident. despite the similarities to certain pop-culture items, it's still not blatant copying like lurapets has done. that's what i think keith was trying to get at here.

Subeta does this too though. I mean, you at least make some changes so its technically not violating copyright but... I don't get why you're pointing this out with such negativity when what Subeta does is only slightly better. It's still all basically ripping off pop culture stuff to get people who like ___ to like your site more cause it has ___ on it too! The whole concept seems like a cop-out from making really cool ideas yourself, to me :/

On an almost completely unrelated note, god damn are Lura's avatars ugly as hell no matter how you dress them up.
  • Also, the panda bear on the spring layout is really, really Lisa Frank-ish. XD

I am pretty sure I have an account there.

Is there a way to report possible copyright infringement?
